Research

Topics

The CvT's main research activities lie in the supervision of master theses (and occasionally bachelor papers) on terminological topics. Most of these dissertations use the GenTerm method to explore a set of concepts within a specific domain for two or more languages.

A number of these theses contribute to larger projects (e.g. the MeSH Termbase Project and the Electronic Dictionary of Communication Terminology); other theses stand on their own.

The following are among the other research topics that CvT staff are involved in:

  • critical appraisal of terminology management systems and of the CAT-systems that they are part of
  • critical appraisal of term extraction programs
  • principles of terminography (termbase design)
  • principles of electronic dictionary design
  • theoretical topics in terminology (equivalence issues; concept systems etc.)
  • the terminology of terminography: glossaries, controlled vocabularies, thesauri etc.
  • strategies for terminology mining
